Dedicated obesity surgery program for teens
Teen Time Bariatrics is a dedicated Weight Loss Surgery Program for teens in Perth. The program is offered by Mercy Bariatrics, in cooperation with Adelaide Bariatric Centre.
Obesity as a teen can become a real struggle. If you experience health challenges, and obesity impacts your relationships and self-esteem, then it might be worth exploring options such as bariatric surgery (or obesity surgery) for teens.
Teen Time Bariatrics in the news
Why does WA not allow bariatric surgery for teens? All other states in Australia allow obesity surgery for teenagers and recently published guidelines from the peak Bariatric Surgery body in Australia (ANZMOSS) clearly support this surgery in 14+ age group. In this video, Dr Leon Cohen from Teentime Bariatrics in Perth explains the current situation in Western Australia.
If you are a Perth teenager, or you’re a parent of an obese teen, please get in touch with Teen Time Bariatrics to discuss your options with Dr Leon Cohen.
Am I a candidate
for teen weight loss surgery?
We have set an age range between 14 – 18 for our adolescent program.
As a general indication as to whether someone is a candidate, these are the BMI values we use:
- BMI > 40
- BMI > 35 with a serious obesity-related comorbidity.
There are a range of comorbidities that we take into account
The teams at Mercy Bariatrics and Adelaide Bariatric Centre build on years of experience.
Dr Leon Cohen is the Medical Director of Mercy Bariatrics and was one of the first surgeons to introduce the Sleeve Gastrectomy to Australia. Adelaide Bariatric Centre was established in 1995 as the first obesity clinic in Adelaide.
If weight loss surgery for teens is relevant for your teenage child, or you as an adolescent are considering it, then you can count on a whole team to support you.
